Never Trust HDD
That was my friend (Alaa) Advice, who is expert in computer hardware and special techniques, while we were walking home, talking about the importance of making a regular backup, and never trust your hard disk.
I was a bit doubt about what Alaa said, especially if you are taking good caution and doing all the recommends of protecting your pc, thanks to Alaa, I made a backup copy that day to all my hard disk, even I wasn’t sure about its benefit.
2 days later I sat to check my e-mail and Blog, as usual, suddenly the modem is not working, I made a restart, again and again, but no hope, I decided to reinstall the driver, even I don’t know how windows lost the modem, anyway, nothing worked, I thought maybe if I changed the slot, the modem may work, thus, I moved the modem to another slot.
When I started up my system, BOOM, pc is not booting, a booting screen comes up, telling me which mode u want to start, and whenever u chose normal or safe mode, the system restart and restart, without loading windows.
I thought maybe it’s the modem, so I removed it, but no hope, I suspected the hard disk, but the problem is, the system recognize the HDD, and tells me that no errors found.
When I tried to write to HDD, an error appear, thus I formatted all the HDD, and re partition it, then BOOM, after all that, I couldn’t install Windows, cause somewhere in the process, and error in Blue screen tells me, there is an error in line ## , and notify me that I made a change to the hardware, but I didn’t, I went crazy.
At this point, I called Alaa for a rescue, and that’s what happened, we spent all the day, trying, but we fail, and finally I told Alaa, what if we put my hard disk in your computer and install windows from your driver.
We succeeded, then Alaa told me, do u know that your hard disk was 100% clean, and the problem was not in the hard disk, it was the cable, here, I felt chocking, my face turned to yellow, WHAT !? I spent all these hours for a stupid cable.
Yes, it was a cable, once I changed it, everything back to normal, thanks for the backup copy, which helped me a lot, imagine that I formatted the HDD without having a backup…WOW, I would go crazy.
Ever since, I decided to make a regular copy to my HDD each week, you never knows when the problems find its way to you.
Remember, Never trust your hard disk.
There is an Arabic version of this article, read it.
